Lab Lake Capital was founded and is led by Andy Katz.  Andy has extensive pet industry experience, having successfully grown several pet brands, disrupting markets along the way.  

Past Accomplishments Include:

• Launched, grew and sold Just For Pets Superstore, the first large format pet superstore chain in the East to Petco.  PetSmart and Petco competed to acquire this chain.

• Grew New England Serum Company, a $5M pet products catalog business, into $116M multi-channel CPG business with divisions selling to pet care professionals and pet retailers under the brands PetEdge and PetEdge Dealer Services.

• Created and launched over 25 brands across dog and cat product categories, with seven of these brands becoming #1 or #2 sellers in their category, according to a leading pet trade journal. 

• Developed multiple disruptive products that changed the nature of select pet product categories.  Achieved this through strategies related to value-engineering, leveraging of proprietary technologies, and effective marketing.

• Created multiple disruptive business models in the pet industry that drove significant growth.  Impacted channels, supply chains, and markets through disintermediation and hybrid business models.

• Launched and grew multiple e-commerce platforms, transacting $60M+ via web.

• Opened distribution centers on the East and West coasts of the US, and multiple company offices in Asia. 

• Managed through significant ERP-implementation related crisis.

Lessons from fast growth in retail, pet care services, e-commerce, direct marketing, distribution, CPG, and disruptive strategies, coupled with experience around cost-cutting and crisis management, provide a unique perspective on growth, profits, strategy, and the pet industry.  This experience is called upon in a range of engagements and opportunities that are presented to Lab Lake Capital.
